Isuzu’s two new 2007 trucks

Isuzu Motors America, Inc., announced that it will add two new models to its award-winning line of pickup trucks.

The i-370 4×2 Extended Cab and the i-370 4×2 Crew Cab will join the already announced i-290 4×2 Extended Cab and the i-370 4×4 Crew Cab to double the size of the 2007 Isuzu Pickup lineup.

CERRITOS, Calif. — Isuzu Motors America, Inc., announced that it will add two new models to its award-winning line of pickup trucks.

The i-370 4×2 Extended Cab and the i-370 4×2 Crew Cab will join the already announced i-290 4×2 Extended Cab and the i-370 4×4 Crew Cab to double the size of the 2007 Isuzu Pickup lineup.

The i-370 4×2 Extended Cab brings five-cylinder power to Isuzu’s extended-cab body style for the first time, while the i-370 4×2 Crew Cab puts crew cab spaciousness in a new two-wheel-drive configuration.

Both models will be powered by a Vortec 3700 3.7-liter inline five-cylinder engine developing 242 horsepower and 242 foot-pounds of torque mated to a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Other standard equipment includes power windows, power door locks, power outside mirrors, remote keyless entry, and body side moldings.

The i-370 4×2 Extended Cab’s optional Luxury package will provide consumers with such features as AM/FM stereo with six-disc in-dash CD changer, sliding rear window, fog lamps, electronic traction control and limited slip differential. The i-370 4×2 Crew Cab’s optional Limited package will include all of those features plus leather seating surfaces, eight-way power heated driver’s seat and six-way power heated front passenger seat.

Both new models will be protected by the longest powertrain limited warranty and matching roadside assistance available on any pickup truck in America—seven years or 75,000 miles, whichever comes first.

In announcing the new models, J. Terry Maloney, president and COO of Isuzu Motors America, said, “Some of our customers have said they needed the room of a crew cab but without the off-highway capability of four-wheel drive. And some of our customers have asked for the extra power of a five-cylinder engine in the versatile extended-cab body style. These new models address both of those needs and make our line of Isuzu Pickups more appealing to more consumers than ever.”

Production is scheduled to begin in October 2006. Pricing will be announced shortly.

Too little, too late. It was a major mistake not to offer these trucks with a 6-cylinder. Never mind the fact that with the 3.7, the output will be competitive with most of the other companies’ V-6s. Do you think most customers are sophisticated or educated enough to care? Probably not. Even if the dealers try to smooth-talk them and say, “It’s got just as much power as a 6.” Remember Toyota and the T-100? Same deal. So what if later on, the 3.4 V-6 had nearly as much power as Chevy and Ford’s base V-8s. If the customer wants a six (or V-8), nothing else will do.
