BMW 2 Series and M2

The BMW 1 Series hatchback has been on sale in Europe for awhile now, and now the German automotive powerhouse will be bringing the coupe version of the 1 over to the States as a 2 Series. Normally I wouldn’t be so excited, but the best part about this car arrival is that BMW is finally hitting my market segment with a powerful coupe for around $25,000.

The new 2 series is rumored to start at $23k for a baseline 4 cylinder, move up to $26k for an I-6 engine (or turbocharged 4 banger, which would you rather buy?), and top out at $32,000 for an M2 version that could be in the works. The M2 is also rumored to have a new 300-hp 6-cylinder engine from BMW, which would stick it nicely in the motorsport division with the new M5 having 500-hp and the next M3 being near 400-hp.

The possible turbo 4 could be responsible for 200+ horsepower, and that would be a great deal for a BMW car if it was priced in the mid twenty thousands. So if you were in this market, would you buy the 2? Check out some pictures — the first two are spy pictures, and the third is a spy-based illustration. Reminds me of the Scion … very hot.

If it look anything like the last picture… I would purchase ‘that one’ straight off. Why does Europe have all the cool cars? It kills anything Acura, Lexus or any other automakers for the money.

Looks pretty cool and I would certainly be interested in a an affordable, sporty BMW. The M2 would be going up against the likes of the WRX STi, Mitsu EVO, 350Z and the G35 coupe so it’d have a lot of competition though…

I must say that regarding the new Scion TC - in pics I always like the way it looks but, in person, the thing looks like a chubby little slug. Not very sporty at all. Ah well…

Yes I would most certainly by one, I always thought they needed to market a car in the mid 20s. I really like the hard top not a huge fan of that convertable. The Cars hot though cannot wait to see one..

Actually a couple of German magazines just told everybody a week or so ago, that the coupe is going to be called 1 series as well.
Besides that, I really hope it will be looking like on those pictures and not quite like the 1 series hatchback.

I’ll probably get shot for even comparing, but to be completely honest the first picture looks very much like the Hyundai Elantra GT 5 dr hatchback. I only mention this because I actually own one :)
Regarding the car though, this would make a great affordable addition to the BMW series cars over here in the states. Makes me excited ;)

Personally I do not like the 1 series and the 2 series does not look great in those pictures, can’t tell what it will be like until it is out though. I think that the M3 and the Z4 are probably the best BMW’s out at the moment. If they are considering an M2 as well maybe a M1 could be on the way to, but what a mistake that would be!!! None the less BMW’s beat most cars out there, so it should mix things up a little.

If it looked like the last picture I would buy one like that. Just hope it comes to Australia!
