The mystique and grandeur of the old S-Class sedan just wasn’t cuttin’ the proverbial mustard over in Germany, so they gathered round the fire and came up with a bulbous, bug-butted replacement that has turned some heads ….. in the wrong direction.

Pop on over to those crazy kids at German Car Fans for more high resolution photos. Personally, I can’t look at that ugly ass of the car anymore, but maybe you’d like to.

Based on the specifications, the new S600 will push a dozen cylinder engine capable of 512-hp. That’s a little less than 5 Honda Civics, just for some perspective.
I was just getting used to the old S-Class design considering that’s all the richies drive around these parts (Raleigh area.) This new one reminds me of a cut-off Maybach without the cool extras. Even though I’m ragging on it a bit, I’m still really glad that it doesn’t look like a 7-series, which in my book, is the ugliest luxury car on the damn planet.
Oh, and sorry about the lack of updates. We had some server issues hot dates ….. uhh, nevermind.

As a car biz professional, I agree.
I like the old s-class couture, and the new one doesnt even begin to grace the doorstep of the 7 series, which actually grew on me until I gave in as a fan.
Mercedes I predict will drop some point with this one..even if status always rings true…

To me, it seems that this car is (clumsily) trying to ride the coattails of the Maybach in terms of design. I can only hope that the dynamics are improved and MBZ focuses on quality with its new release. Their current products are ridden with electronic malfunctions…
Unfortunately, their current push toward ever more powerful engines has resulted in a loss of overall direction at Benz. But then, opinions are beginning to change on Bangle’s effect on Bimmer design (though it’s been significantly toned-down) where they were once caustic all-round. It will be interesting to see where Benz goes with design in the future…and how we feel about it. We’ve got a blurb about it at http://driver-mag.com/WordPress.

Mercedes is following BMW into a new era of uncoolness. The new cars just don’t “rule” like they used to. Right now i think Audi is producing the best cars in this class. just look at the A8 L W12 quattro!

I’m OK with the new S600, was a much needed departure from the underdesigned predecessors.
But, I don’t know anyone that buys a new Benz because they’re OK with it…

At least it’s not as ugly as an Audi.

Far from the 7 series… well that depends on your taste.. Its soo much more advanced. Check out its specs, if the standard is too weak for you, try the Brabus edition - in black!
