When I was watching the Apprentice not too long ago, the show had the most amazing guest star ever – a Lamborghini Gallardo. Oh My God! This is a dream car. Ultimate. But before I continue raving on and on about the Gallardo, let me discuss a little bit about the challenge that Lamborghini and advertising execs put to the contestants on the 4th season of Donald Trump and Mark Burnett’s smash-hit reality TV series.

Okay. I’m getting to the point. Really!

There are two teams on the show. Right now, it’s men (Excel Corp) vs. women (Capital Edge). The task – create a print and video campaign for the Lamborghini Gallardo. The two teams get to work. The men are over-confident. They think they’re just going to nail this one out of the park. They put a small “i” in the word Italian – to describe the car. Geez! There ain’t nothing little about the “ITALIAN” in Lamborghini. The car espouses the best in Italian performance sports cars. Lamborghini in so many ways is Italy. Poor Ferruccio Lamborghini must’ve been rolling around in his grave. Bless his soul.

What a slap in the face to the Lamborghini! As an Italian myself (my mother was born in Italy) – I was appalled. Of course, some men aren’t noted for their attention to detail. Obviously, none of the men on the Excel Corporation team have this quality. They also used a green car in their print ad and used the words “Green with envy.” Who’s green with envy? The car. Hell NO. We all know that a Lamborghini doesn’t need to be envious of any other car. It’s the people who don’t own the car and other cars that should envy the Lamborghini. This is the Claudia Schiffer, Heidi Klum or Cindy Crawford of cars, y’all. They should have used a question mark to show that the car was taunting those who didn’t own it or other cars, as in Are you “GREEN WITH ENVY?”

The men also gave a terrible presentation. One of the judges of the task said it best, “Men say it; women feel it.” The women won hands down. The Lamborghini Gallardo is an emotional purchase. It is a car to be loved and adored, not just bought and used. It’s an experience. It’s so much more than transportation. It is PERFORMANCE. PASSION. HERITAGE. EXCELLENCE. It is POWER. SOPHISTICATION. REWARD. It is something you earn. You have to deserve the Gallardo. You have to conquer your fears and give yourself “permission” to own it, as Capital Edge realized. You have to want it and maybe even need it.

The Lamborghini Gallardo can not be conveyed with mere words. It needs emotion behind it. The tradition of Lamborghini, the mastery of it.

Now for a description of the car. Is your mouth watering yet? C’mon – admit it. It is.

The car has a V10 engine with an engine power of 520 bhp – and lower ratio gears. It can reach a top speed of 196 mph easily and accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4 seconds! That’s performance.

The look of the car is stunning. It’s athletically compact. It’s sleek. It’s sexy. The design hasn’t changed much since the Gallardo’s original design was created in 2000. It has a long wheelbase with short overhangs. There is a strongly-slanted front screen and tensed pillars. These help to integrate the cab-forward cockpit into the body’s overall design.

The hood is controlled electronically. It’s easy to navigate. There’s an engine bonnet which functions as a hood cover. The car has six hydraulic cylinders (four which help handle the hood). The Gallardo just improves upon the open-top car design. It’s a masterpiece!

You couldn’t have a Lamborghini without luxury, right? Standard in the car (everywhere but in Japan) is the special Lamborghini Multimedia system which includes CD-changer, MP3 player and radio. There’s also a non-smoking version of the car where the cigarette lighter is replaced with a 12V socket. Optional equipment includes a rear video camera and a TV tuner (Not in USA/Canada or Japan)!

Another great thing about the 2006 Gallardo is that it comes in a few new exterior colors Celeste Phoebe (light blue) and Verde Picus (green). For the interior, you can get Marrone Janus (brown) now as the main color, contrasted with white (Blanco Polar). Carpets are available in Marrone Janus, Rosso Centaurus (Red) and Arancio Leonus (Orange).

Other options include:

  • anti-theft system
  • heated mirrors
  • onboard computer
  • navigation system
  • e-gear
  • wheel rims
  • silver callisto wheels
  • and so much more! There is also a special edition (SE) of the Gallardo. It is limited to 250 units. This edition has two-tone body paint, a sportier interior and more. The car has permanent 4-wheel drive, a 6-speed gearbox, an aluminum space frame, ABS, ABD, air conditioning, two front and side air bags and more. It’s richly-equipped with standard features like rearview camera with built-in screen for ease when parking the car. Overall, the SE has a more aggressive design, feel and interior than the standard 2006 Gallardo.

Despite the shortcomings of Excel Corp’s presentation, the 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo is a car above other cars. It defies words and logic. It lives in the heart where a Lamborghini is supposed to.

I absolutely agree with everything you say about Lamborghini and its heritage. However, while the Gallardo is a sexy beast of a supercar it is a ways away from being the best. Remember, the Gallardo is the “baby” Lambo… the Murcielago being king. There are cars like the Mitsubishi Evo8 MR FQ400 that does 0-62mph in a whopping 3.5sec, the upcoming C6 Z06 which will do that in 3.7sec for much cheaper, and then there’s the awesome Pagani Zonda F, but that’s outta the price range (as is the Enzo).

Great Blog; I love reading your stuff.

The Lamborghini Murcelago LP 640 is their latest edition, it is a superb example.

    Hi There

About the attention to detail - the “ITALIAN” sportscar you speak of is in actual fact very very German. The Lamborghini group was bought out by Audi (VW) and the Gallardo was made with lots of Audi input and the project leader is also German.
