Chicks Dig Cars

My qualifications for knowing this: I am a chick. I really really like cars. Fast ones.

My qualifications for knowing this: I am a chick. I really really like cars. Fast ones.

I was raised in a hot rod family; my brother and uncles did chassis fab in the garage. I have a heart that pumps premium octane. There is so much to love about cars, especially fast ones.

The power pulling (or pushing—I’m not trying to marginalize you rear-wheel-drive people) you down the road and the maneuverability of a great sports car (can you say 50/50 weight distribution… yum). I have been guilty of allowing my RPM to climb close to redline when merging onto the freeway just to feel the torque. And when it’s one of those curvy onramps, it’s even better. Being pushed back into my bucket seats, holding just under 10 and 2; it’s really sexy.

Driving a fast car is sexy, and a girl would be lying if she said even riding passenger in a fast car wasn’t. Me, I prefer driving. Being a passenger isn’t my style unless there’s traffic and I’m in L.A., which happens to be where I live. So my husband gets to drive the fun car every now and then. But give me a long-distance road trip by golly and I’m on it!

It’s funny how we’re different, my husband and I. I own an RSX Type-S, a seriously fun car, and he owns a 1998 Saturn L1, a seriously boring—if not downright obnoxious—car. But I digress, we were talking about chicks, of which he is not. Just remember this if you remember anything: Girls love cars, they just don’t show it as much as men do.

Yes, ma’am, we do. And we can be pretty chics, and love cars too. I’m a big muscle car fan … when I hear the roar of a Mustang approaching, my blood pressure rises and my eyes instantly stare in that direction. As it passes by, it’s like a “natural high” when it speeds by. That sound, the look, the emotion of knowing what it’s like behind the driver’s seat … it’s unreal!

My wife likes cars, dependable ones. She wants another Camry because the past two that we had were dependable cars that were fuel efficient. I, however, want a BMW 650i convertible, because it’s… well, a BMW!!! I couldn’t afford it so I bought an ‘06 Siverado. It’s the first V8 I’ve had since selling my ‘85 Camaro when we had our first child 12 years ago. It’s not a sports car, but it sure jerks your head back when you open it up. I guess that’ll do for a couple more years. By the way, the big V8 doesn’t impress my wife. Go figure.

Interesting. I’ve noticed something like this myself. Sold a couple of muscle cars recently. One was an ‘02 Firebird Ram Air WS6 and the other was a 2000 Camaro Z28. Both went to young “chicks”.
