GM is extended its wildly successful “Employee Discount” until September 6th. Automotive sales haven’t been doing the best this last year. The major auto makers had to think of something and it looks like GM came up with a “Marketing Masterpiece” as I’ve heard quoted.
Well, it seemed to work on my parents. I went to go see those people in my life I call Mom and Dad. No one was home at their place so I just strolled right in for a Fig Newton…or 2. I brought a friend along for the ride, because it was a nice little 45 minute drive from my house and it was already 9 o’clock when we departed on our excursion.
While we’re chowing down on our fruitin’ cake, they pull up in a brand new Ford truck.
Sidenote: I never realized how deep the Ford truck beds are. You could fit a whole keg upright in the back and not even know it was there. Nice. They bought the truck for their ATM business and the truck is being shipped to Hawaii.
So, I asked them how much they picked it up for. Mom answers, “$15,000″. What!? That’s it! Then she reminds me of the GM employee discount is still going on. All-in-all, they received $6,000 off their brand new Ford Truck. Not too shabby at all.

Even though it’s not the best time to buy a full size vehicle, with gas prices going further north of $3.00+, I recommend heading down to your local dealership and checking the prices and see what’s available. It might just be time to take your beater in for a shiny, glossy new 2005 Chevrolet Corvette…or whatever.
If you ARE thinking about those high gas prices, why not check out a hybrid. I’ve been hearing some good things lately about hybrids. I even read about a guy who setup a “Hybrid Conversion Shop” (can’t find the link, sorry). He’s charging $7,000 a car to convert your gas guzzler into a clean, efficient, “I like bunnies”, hybrid.
These 2 sites might help you decide if a hybrid is the right choice for you:

If I remember correctly, the GM employee discount doesn’t apply to that lovely new Corvette, nor to the horsepower bumped GTO.

With “cheap” new cars come even cheaper used cars. Used car prices are dropping quickly to compete with the employee pricing models.
Just the other day I saw a used car dealer offering employee pricing! It’s starting to be a little too much.
