Mixed thoughts on street-racing

I don’t streetracing, having heard the results from my spouse who’s had to treat the remains of would-be racers even from legit locals. But I’m not against the…sport…if the drivers keep off the streets.

So it’s with mixed feelings I read news of police crackdowns on street-racing.

The arrests are legit most of the time. Kids, way too much into themselves and their machines, decide a public stretch of road makes a good track at 1:00 AM in the morning. I know; I’ve been in the middle of one. Result, if they’re lucky, is they complete the race, egos satisfied, and they’re long gone before the police arrive. Unfortunately, that outcome is becoming less common as the streets become more crowded and the other extreme, bodybags, begins to rise. Legislation is now pending in San Fran where there’s a lot of such activity. Canada, too, is looking into enacting laws in some of its cities and provinces.

Street-racers, of course, are up at arms over the laws. There’s preciously little can they can do, though, since street-racing outside the designated tracks is already illegal. I fear they’re going to go further underground which will make it even more difficult to solve crime. Also, because many street-races happen at inpromptu tuner gatherings, the latter will start to develop an unsavory rep.

What to do….

I like to punch the accelerator as much as the next, guy, I love going fast, but some of these kids are retarded doing this. If you are going to street race, at least be smart about it. I know here in Iowa all these Civic-tuners think they can drive, but it’s a different story when you are doing 80 in a 35. I see the crashes here al lthe time, it’s a pity

For those who don’t disagree, urbanwhite.com may be of interest. I just souped up my civic with a supercharger, body kit, and neon. Bounce!

Street Racing is stupid. Yea, most of us have done it at one point or another, but looking back, im sure most of us realize what could have happened and that we got lucky. Organizations such as RASR (Racers against street racing) are doing a great job of promoting the idea “Take it to the Track” and i applaud them for that.

I race street race. I race on highways. I race on back roads. I think that street racing is just as dangerous as the racers. I have only been in one accident my entire “racing career” and that iz when the car i was racing went to make a left hand turn from my right side. Needless to say it wuz unindicated that this person wuz going to turn IN FRONT OF ME and cut me off, and i hit their car. not 1 dent, not 1 injury. This is what i call a person that cannot race. That same person cut off a truck and totaled their vehicle but wuz totally uninjured. I am very close to this person but to this day i will not street race them until they can prove some form of driving skill. So the moral of the story iz that street racing iz just as dangerous as the street racer
(This race took place on a LONG contry back road at around 9pm @ night).

Street racing can be safe if done in desert streets with good cars (not by some kids with their mom’s car). Yeah and check out this web site ustreetrace.com, see related videos of high performance cars.
